That Dang Bunny is worse than Sanjaya!

Bunny 2

I can’t help it. Every year this cheesy, cornball, politically correct, rodent gets top billing!

Look at him (her…whatever)! What’s the fuss all about?! A few bites and it’s gone! And who remembers him TWO SECONDS after Easter?! No one. Yet, every year he pulls off the world’s greatest double reverse! When he appears on the scene (right at about 3 seconds after Christmas is over) everyone all of the sudden takes a great interest in colored eggs and chocolate anythings and…what is it, exactly that he offers?!

He doesn’t have any super powers.

He’s not even as cool as some of these lame, lesser known super powers I read about online today:

1. Crystal shield. A block of translucent crystal can be created out of thin air.

2. Plasma blast: The plasma character can expel the energy from his body <— That’s just gross!

3. Plastic Man: He (get this) stretches. Isn’t that, Elasticman’s power?

Need I go on? The point is, the Easter Bunny is NOTHING!

I know. I know. I’ve heard the weak attempts of Christians to connect, stretch, completely transform, the Easter Bunny into some sort of Christian icon pointing the way to Christ, but they’re laughable. Sanjaya

That’s like trying to connect Sanjaya to actual musical talent. It’s too much of a leap. It just can’t be done!

Why not skip the meaningless detour and just go right to the message of our risen Lord?

Just a thought.

Oh, by the way. Someone asked if we are going to have an Easter Egg hunt this year.

Of course!

I said the whole bunny thing was lame, but I still love chocolate! And the bottom-line…whether I like it or not? People come out for these things and I’d wear my hair like Sanjaya if I knew it would cause people to come hear about the life-changing message of Jesus Christ.

But that doesn’t mean I’d like it.

You just gave me an image…you with Sanjaya’s hair…YIKES! I agree…the whole easter bunny hype is a bit lame (mind you I just came from Walmart at lunchtime to get plastic eggs and chocolate easter bunnies for the kids). But I am hoping my new found love for Christ will rub off on others and they will see what I see!

Oh my, Pastor Rob has “slammed” on the Easter Bunny and Sanjaya in a single Blog Post, what kind of guy is he. Well how about a guy based in Truth and Reality. As it has been said, “the truth just sounds different”.

I must agree, that Easter bunny (a semi-politically correct non-gender specific fuzzy figure) although cute, is like many things, highly over-rated. Think about it…. most chocolate Easter bunnies are hollow and do not fill you up and when the chocolate buzz ends, you are out of energy. A lot like so many things in life that people feel they must have to fill a “perceived” void. Un-like a life following Christ that is solid, fills up your life every day, and gives you the strength and wisdom to deal with all of life’s perceived voids and issues. God gives us nothing we cannot handle, but if we are focused on the wrong things, things can often seem overwhelming.

As for Sanjaya, well my wife used to cry just like that little girl when he sang, but we found this nifty thing on the TV remote called the Mute Button, that helped dry up our tears in a hurry.

As always our mission as we know it and for those of us that have chosen to accept it, (oh those Purpose @ The Office Cards are so great, my wife had ours laminated, no joke, it is in my wallet, but I digress…..) is to continue to figure out how to show the people that get excited about the Easter bunny, American Idol, Santa Clause, etc… etc… only a few days a year, just how great every day can be when you have Jesus Christ in your life.

If an Easter egg hunt leads people to Southbrook where they have a chance to get the real message, then we need to just keep hiding those eggs! ;>)

As we know, there are a lot of people that will join us at Southbrook and at other churches this weekend that normally do not attend church. They are being lead there for a reason whether they know it or not. Deep down inside God is guiding them and it will be so great to see those that hear his message and give their life to Christ over the next few days.

Every day is a day to give thanks for all that God has given and gives to us. This weekend is above all others the days that we as Christ followers should recognize and give thanks for the sacrifice that was made for us.

Rob, Rob, Rob,

You are being a Hare-aphob! Shame on you for inciting this hate for the Easter Bunny. I’ll bet you’ve never tried it. So before you continue on your kill the wabbit crusade you should at least try some first. I have enclosed a recipe. Enjoy!

Hausenpheffer (German Rabbit Stew)

Ingredients:
2 or 3 Rabbits (cut up)
2 chopped Apples
2 T. Pickling Spice (wrapped in cloth)
3 C. Water
2 C. Vinegar
1 medium chopped Onion
1 T. Salt
1/3 C. Raisins
Cooking Instructions:
Combine all ingredients. Cook slowly until meat is tender. If desired, add 8 cut up prunes after meat is tender - if added sooner they will stick to pan. Brown 1-3/4 C. white flour in frying pan until cinnamon color. Add to stew. Will look lumpy but if you cover the lumps will steam out.
Serving Suggestions:
Serve with mashed potatoes.
