Seriously gang, I follow a lot of ministries and large churches, music, the worship scene, etc. and I have YET TO SEE more genuine, sincere worship as well as SHEER TALENT as there is at SCC! Come on now, do you all realize how much God has blessed us?!
So this month’s (sorry, I’ve been slack on this) champions of the week are the musicians and singers that make up Southbrook’s worship ministry.
You all ROCK!

You know we just got home from tonight’s sermon and I wanted to say thank you!
I have always thought of myself as open and honest. I have always believed that I have nothing to regret from my life if I have learned something from my mistakes. I still do but I have to admit that in the past couple of years I have been hiding something. Before we moved here I was let go from a job for sexual harrassment. As hard as that is for me to say (in writing no less) I have to. I had a hard childhood and in my ignorant belief to “regain” my power I gave myself away. As I have drawn closer to God I realize that he is the only one to heal me.
As I drew closer to him he put me in the path of women with similar histories to mine. As I shared parts of my testimony (openly) I was called out and accused of sexual harrassment. I have never harrassed anyone but I now know that this is exactly what we are all afraid of. Satan or people using our fears to control our lives and what we think of ourselves. You know what?! God knows my heart, He knows my intentions of sharing this horrible past of mine and he knows that I have NOTHING TO HIDE!
So from this moment forward NO MORE HIDING. You know my deepest secret. I was sexually abused as a child, I was sexually abused as a teenager, and I was promiscusous as a college student. I then and only then learned that God forgives us all and that he will make right all of our ignorant choices. He will make us whole and help us to know that we are worth more than just our bodies. More than what we “give” someone. We are beautifully and wonderfully made in him!
Here I am open and honest with you. What you think of me is your choice but I know what I am in him!
Thank you Rob for the freedom I have been craving!

Personally, my Champion of the Month is Jesus Christ. I know, brown-noser, but really, He has done great things to remind us of His Love for all of us. For 131 or more people on Easter Sunday, He drew them unto Himself and gave them salvation from the sins. For more than 100 people were baptized a couple of weeks ago. Through Clayton King, Christ was proclaimed and about 130 people gave their lives to our wonderful Savior. Not bad for a month!
Then again, look what He did in one day in Jerusalem. 3,000! Is it possible that He can do it again? Yes! Does He need us? No! Does He want us? Yes!
God is “moving” at Southbrook. The evidence is all around us. We can call out the numbers. We can name the ministries. But, for Dee and so many others (new Christ followers or veterans) including myself, it is the freedom that He is bringing into our lives. Freedom from sin and addictions. Freedom from rejection and pain. Freedom from our need to hold the purse strings. Freedom from being married to the job. Freedom to give. Freedom to love. Freedom to let go of all of the stuff that gets in the way.
I cannot begin to give numbers to show the impact of Christ at work, nor do I think it is necessary. The big question over the past two weeks has been “Are we making God too small?” The real question in my mind is, “Are we letting God change our hearts and minds?” We are not in control. We never really have been. The only control we have had is the freedom to choose Him or a life separate from Him. People are starting to make that choice because of the obedience of Pastor Rob and others to tell it like it is. Yet, it all comes back to Jesus. He has gone to the Father on our behalf and things are happening. That is so exciting.
We, but me first, need to be chasing God with all of my heart, like my very life, all the time. What I am seeing, from my seat, is people doing this. Not because of the preaching alone, the worship band alone, Adam’s death alone, or anything else by itself. No, God is using these things because that is what He does to change the hearts and minds of people. He is drawing us. He is longing for us. All I have to do is let go.

You know Rob I am so thankful that the Lord has movedu s here and to Southbrook!
I wanted to comment on who I thought was a Champion of the month! Since we are in the “virtual” series and we are all trying out small groups I thought we should give a shout out to Crystal Kirton, and Andrea Owens. They embody exactly what a small group is supposed to do! When Adam passed we all wanted to go and be with Kate but Andrea and Crystal were there when some of us couldn’t be. They have stuck be her side and by her family’s side through this extremely difficult time. They are my pick of Champions of the week!
