The return of the blob AAAuuuuuugggghhhhh!!!!
Remember that old, cheesy horror movie. Some sort of slimy, silly puddy material was sliming the world to death. It’s hard to imagine people getting all worked up about it as a scary movie, but apparently it was quite the ‘pee your pants, cry for your mommy’ type flick in its day.
Well, believe it or not, it’s back!!
The return of the blob.
Only in this case it is a frightening mass of humanity seeping back into the main auditorium at 10:00 and 11:30 on Sunday mornings.
This prospect frightens me a thousand times worse than facing the original blob in a dark alley. In fact Michael, Jason, and Freddy all combined could not do as much damage as this blob does to our chances of reaching more unchurched before the 1300 seat worship center opens in late November of this year.
So, that being said, if you are a member or regular attender of Southbrook Church would you please remember the importance of freeing up seats in the main at 10:00 and 11:30 for our guests?
I’d also like to resurrect the 8:30 cafe group who agreed to make that their home for 8 months or so…
Where did you go?
You’re not being assimilated into the blob are you?
If so we will have to spray you with a fire hydrant and then freeze dry you until you become brittle and break into itty bitty pieces (this, as I recall, was the only way to defeat the blob).
It’s tough but fair.
Hope to see you all this weekend…
Just not all of you at 10:00 and 11:30 in the main.
P.S. If you are part of this amazing ride, tell us how you found out about Southbrook Church and post it as a comment after my previous blog. Just click here, http://www.robsingleton.net/?p=257 and post your answer. I will share the results in a couple weeks. We need at least a hundred families to respond to get any real data.
Thanks.

I just wanted to add my two cents- it may only be worth one cent.
Christopher mentioned how it would feel being turned away on your first visit to Southbrook. Well, that happened to us. Not at Southbrook, but at another good, Christ centered, large church that shall remain nameless, for now.
Anyway, it took us forever to get parked, walk across the campus, and find the right building, only to be told it was full and we had to go to the overflow building. We didn’t know what this church was like at the time, it was only our first Sunday in the area, but we knew we were turned away after walking around lost. So we left. We didn’t even bother looking for the overflow building. Now, I’m actually glad because two weeks later we found Southbrook and are so glad we did. BUT, what if that would have been our only time attempting church? What if someone comes to Southbrook, is turned toward the video cafe after crossing the huge parking lot, waiting to get their kids into kids church, and trying to find the right door to the sacntuary? They may just leave, but if they leave Southbrook, what will they find two weeks later? Hmm…
Michael says:
When church is about me, I am no longer able to serve. Christ came to serve, not be served. People, if you view church as your fix for the week, you are going to church for all the wrong reasons. There are people who are at the gates of hell and they could get one chance to knock on our door. When you answer it (if you are not just listening to the great music so you cannot hear the knocking), do you want to tell them to go away - like maybe to …

Saturday’s are actually addicting… in a good way! When I first RELUCTANTLY committed to attending the Saturday night service to make room for visitors on Sunday morning I thought. “I will do this for while but I sure will be glad when it’s over”… now I am sort of panicking. With the new building will there be NO MORE SATURDAY NIGHT SERVICES??? I have actually learned to enjoy the easy going pace of Saturday night. I think everyone should try it for a while, make it a habit!

I’ll be the first to admit, I was sitting in the 11:30 main service last Sunday. I have my excuse…but it’s still not acceptable, forgive me Lord and Southbrook body of Christ.
On the way to work Monday morning I heard the Casting Crowns song “If we are the body” and got really convicted and heard God talking to our actions… see what you think or feel….
–But if we are the Body
–Why aren’t His arms reaching ( Greeting and shaking hands, welcoming the un-churched, the de-churched, the lost into the 10 and 11:30 services)
–Why aren’t His hands healing ( you know…”Reach out and touch someone” hug someone you recognize…or don’t recognize… look them in the eyes and let them know you care)
–Why aren’t His words teaching (Why aren’t we listening to Rob’s teaching and help provide more seats for the new folks needing to hear from God when they come to 10 or 11:30 service…the new folks don’t know any better…)
–And if we are the Body
–Why aren’t His feet going (going to the other services, going to small group, going to the baptism’s)
–Why is His love not showing them there is a way (them, the un-churched, the de-churched, the lost…there IS a way, The Way)
–Jesus paid much too high a price
–For us to pick and choose who should come (get this part…for US to choose NOT to give up our seats)
–We are the Body of Christ.
In His love for me to love the needy.

The 8:30 service is great and we have seats available. It is kinda like those airline flights these days where you get all excited when that seat next to you is still empty after the close the cabin door. Ahhhhhh elbow room,,,, (in Church that may not be the best thing, but you get the picture) Not to mention we never know just how happy or grumpy Pastor Rob will be that early in the morning….. Yeah I know, you just can not imagine Pastor Rob as grumpy, it is all relative.
A few weeks ago we had our first tour of duty with the First Impressions Team. At the 10:00 and 11:30 services it took some effort to make sure Visitors were not sent down to the Video Cafe. It was so full it almost came to that.
Just think if your first experience at Southbrook was being “turned away” from the main building.
If some of our main tasks as Christ-Followers is to help others come to know Christ and welcome them into our family, is the simple “temporary” act of changing what time or which building we worship not a small way to help make that happen????
