When it comes to light, most of us are like Gollem.

You know what?

I just can’t find much redeeming about this character.

I know Frodo seemed to see something in Him, but, then again, Frodo seemed to get sucked in by just about anything.

He was a bit naïve, even for a hobbit.

But when it comes to tenacity, Gollem is hard to beat.

Separate him from his precious little, well, precious, and he will tear your arm off and beat you to death with the bloody stub just to get it back.

IT’S A STINKIN RING!!

Ok, it could make you invisible, and if I looked like Gollem, I think invisibility would be irresistible to me as well. But here’s my real point. Compared to people, and love, and life, and God and beauty and creation…that ring was a piece of crap.

Question.

Just how much do you suppose people love their crap?“Ok, ok, enough already pastor Rob. I don’t know exactly where you’re headed with this one but I can tell you right here and now, ‘people don’t love crap!’”

Really?

Are you sure about that?

I think they do.

And please don’t confuse like with love here. People don’t just like their crap, they LOVE it. And I can prove it. But first, let me make matters even worse.

People also love vomit more than gourmet food.

Proverbs 26:11, As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool repeats his folly.

And darkness more than light,

John 3:19, And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil.

And turmoil and strife more than peace,

And sin more than holiness,

And evil more than good.

Not everybody.

But a lot.

More than you think.

Maybe even you!

Funny thing is, if we ever stopped and took a good long look at most of the crap we worship in this life. We might slowly begin to see it for what it really is.

Of course that’s not all that easy.

Hard to see.

With all that darkness floating around.

So today, why don’t you stop and spend a good 30 minutes in God’s Word.

Another 10 (at least) in prayer.

Then take a quick look at some of the crap in your life.

In the light of Christ, it may never look the same.

Oh, by the way, why the use of the word crap so much?

If you still don’t see it, read the following,

Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, Philippians 3:8 (KJV).

Guess what “all things” refers to?

Guess what “dung” is?

And then read this, just for good measure.

And then I’ll see you tonight!

Ok I have stopped laughing enough to type…..

That last picture in this Blog Post and the shirt he is wearing is the best and only because I know who where Pastor Rob’s heart is. If just anyone saw him walking down the street in that shirt they may not feel the same as I do. (Especially with that look on his face). But if you know where his heart is, this shirt is so him and just goes to show that our stuff may not be saying what we think it is about who we are in our walk with God’s or how we feel down inside about life. Oh man, I laughed so hard it made my sides hurt. What a great way to start a day……….

In the Crown Financial Class a group of us are finishing up, we talk about our “stuff” in this life that some people seem to worship. Unfortunately a lot of that “stuff” is the reason so many get into financial trouble, that in turn leads to family issues, and more important it gets in the way of our relationship with God when we are chasing after “stuff” and not after Him.

You may have friends or neighbors that judge you by the type of car you drive, the clothes you wear, or the just “stuff” in your life, but God could care less about all that and he cares more about where you heart is than any designer label on your clothes or the type of car you drive. How about seeking out some new friends instead of new stuff?

Luke 16:13
“No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.”

Wealth is ok as long as it is not your main focus in this life and the way you earn it is honest, just, and for the right reasons. Give back to God, Give back to yourself for your future, Meet you basic needs (food, clothing shelter), then ask yourself what else do you really need………? If you are focused on earning money or getting rich just to have bigger, better, or more “stuff” ask yourself WHY?

It is good to have Pastor Rob back “On-Line” for a regular dose of reality or a the often needed “kick in keester” (aka. “The Buttocks) to keep our focus where it needs to be………….

A few weeks ago, I got sucked back into the world and wanting ’stuff’. Our big TV conked out and for some reason I immediately got online and checked Circuit City and Best Buy. I got so consumed with it. Looking back I am really disappointed in myself. But, during that time, I had to rush my son to the hospital (twice), it was the worst week I have had at work, I was griping with my wife, and I just became so overwhelmed about our bills and money!! I couldn’t see that God would provide for us now as He has for so long now. He reminded me of what is truly important in my life.

I spent some time praying this weekend and cleared my head and gave it all back to God. I asked for His forgiveness and asked Him not to give up on me. He really slapped me in the face this weekend. Stepping back and looking at it, I think now, “Who really needs a new LCD big screen?” “What will this do for my family, for God’s kingdom?”

Two- three years ago I would have rushed right out and charged up the the best TV on my credit card and not have thought anything about it. So, what did I do? I ended up taking our ’small’ 20″ TV from our bedroom to replace our big one– and we haven’t missed the old one so far.

Thanks Rob and staff for doing what you do and how you do it to reach people! SCC has really transformed my life.
