Filling in the Blanks Part 2
Yesterday someone from Southbrook walked by just as Paul Allen, our executive pastor was asking me if my wife, Michelle, ever got jealous of ‘Alisa.’
That would probably perk your ears up a bit too wouldn’t it?
I thought nothing of it until they walked around closer to me and I could see their face.
They were horrified!
I bet they were thinking, What kind of church is this really?
What, do you have two wives or something?
A mistress perhaps?
I had about 2.5 seconds to set the record straight before another potential game of Fill in the Blanks got started.
See yesterday’s post here if you have no idea what I’m talking about.
You see, if you’ve ever traveled with me (on a long trip in the car) then you know I like to use my GPS. My wife got me one of those portable ones a few years back and I love it. It has a lady’s voice, and this particular ‘lady’ is often wrong. Outdated maps I guess.
Anyway, my wife’s first name is actually, Alisa.
Bet you didn’t know that, did you?
She goes by her middle name, Michelle.
My wife is also, usually right about things.
Unlike Alisa.
Alisa is kind of her alter ego.
Michelle, in frustration is the one who gave the satellite locating device her name.
When she gets mad at it, she says, “shut Alisa up and look at a map!”
What do you think I do at that point?
Right.
But it helps to fill in the blanks doesn’t it?

As I read these two posts, it makes me stop and think just how sad it is when people seem to thrive on “filling in the blanks” with thoughts or images that are negative in nature or would make for what they think would be good gossip.
Bottom line, folks are “rushing to judgment….” and doing it with a conclusion that could possibly let them run and tell others the DIRT… on another person! I have no idea what they expect to accomplish with this, yet the world is full of these people.
Why do people feel so compelled to bring down or bash others? Last I looked unless you were one of these sleaze ball reporters that makes a living doing this, there is no financial gain and the hit to your personal integrity meter pays a hefty price every time you do it.
As I read the post my very small brain (in the scale of this big awesome word) processed the comment Pastor Paul made to Michelle and my immediate thought was “I bet he is talking about a family Pet…..”. Yes I was myself was playing fill in the blanks, rushing to judgment….. Why would more people not have a similar innocent fun loving thought instead of going directly in the dirt?
Playing fill in the blanks is what the brain God gave us will will do. WE ARE THINKERS! Buit he gives us the choice on how we will process the thoughts.
To many people in this world seem to thrive on seeing others taken down for their possible faults instead of being lifted up for their positive contributions and accomplishments.
We are all imperfect and at times will make mistakes. The key is, was the mistake one of true innocents, or was it done knowing in our heart and / or our head it was wrong as we were doing it but we did it anyway?
Do you chose to let your brain process positive or negative thoughts when playing fill in the blanks? It is your brain, it is your choice.
As a Christ-Follower I feel we should always look for the good, positive, or light hearted in anything or anyone. If it turns out something is negative or a person is just down right evil, we always have the option to change our view or walk away from a situation if we need to.
Proverbs 21:28
A false witness will perish, and a man who listens speaks to eternity.
We all could stand to do a little more listening……….
