The Early Bird better be you!

You know what they say about the early bird! Well, this morning it better be you! The prize is not a worm this time, but a front row seat for the CD debut of RETURN from Southbrook’s praise and worship teams!
Last night was packed to the walls and today will be no different. So, if […]

Oh What a Night!

Tonight was the release of Southbrook’s first ever praise and worship CD entitled, “Return.” We began the evening pointing to the one who alone is worthy of our praise—Jesus Christ. We talked about how blessed we feel at SCC in that we have some of the greatest musical talent I’ve ever seen at any church […]

Spontaneous Combustion!

I’ve heard it said that there are actual cases of human beings bursting into flames for no apparent reason. I mean, you can read about it on the internet, so it must be true. Actually, I don’t care if it’s true or not (I might feel differently if I suddenly burst into flames, but […]

Get ready to IGNITE!

This weekend will be a concert to remember as Southbrook Church’s many praise and worship teams assemble to celebrate the release of their first CD, “Return.”
After that we begin what I believe will be one of the most life-changing series we’ve ever done at SCC…
IGNITE!
It will be a time where each and every one of […]

Fasten Your Seatbelts!
We’ve spent the last two days as a staff hashing through some pretty deep stuff. We’ve been learning how to work together, deal with conflict, and build trust. We spent the last half of today sharing our dreams. Each pastor and director revealed their heart’s desires, their biggest dreams and […]

Staff Retreat

Advance

I like the way Mark Driscoll refers to these leadership getaways better. For us it wasn’t a time of relaxation or retreating. It was a time of charging forward and advancing on Satan’s territory more and more each day!

And it all began with a little personality exploration…

Personality Plus by Marty Montegue

For the last few […]

The End of “Planet Earth!”

What an incredible series for God!
Planet Earth is over now; however, like global warming, we’ll be feeling the effects for some time to come. Unlike global warming ALL of these effects are real and ALL of these effects are good!
The week before the series began we saw 116 people come to Christ as Clayton King […]

Monkey Business

Let’s quit monkeying around!
A Barrel Full of Monkeys
Ok, gang, obviously people are pouring into Southbrook’s weekend services again and that means that the unchurched, dechurched, tire-kicking, far from God, curious public who give church a whirl will want to come to the 10:00 service. Unfortunately, I’m still seeing some of our ‘mature in the faith […]

“Recommit”
God’s New Year’s Resolutions
New Year’s resolutions don’t work. Is anyone really shocked by that statement? I mean, we all know this to be true, right?
Right.
Then why do so many of us anti up on January 1 each year for another round of disappointments?
Because we don’t want to be failures. We want to make it. We […]

“Return!”

It all began much like […]

‘Dream’
Put legs to those dreams!
Dreaming (buzzz) is all fine and good, but when a lot of people talk about their dreams, I’m pretty sure they’re referring to their ‘daydreams.’
Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream.
When you sit around in your world history class and picture yourself as the $300,000,000 powerball winner, that’s a daydream.
Huge […]

Buzz Word #4

“Contemporary”
This is the word, “relevance’s’” (buzzz) evil twin.
How so? Well, alot of churches believe that if they throw in some, “contemporary” (buzzz) stuff (dressing casual, drums, electric guitar, etc.) that automatically makes them relevant (buzzz). But if that were true, than anything contemporary (buzzz) would automatically connect to your audience.
But that connection is anything but […]

All the right moves (again!)

Reposted
What’s next for the almost 700 new believers in Christ?!
We have a large church within a mega church, but the two have very different needs. If you are one of the individuals who have trusted in Christ as you Lord and Savior this year, your next move is clearly outlined in scripture. You can read […]

Buzz Word # 3

Seeker
Seeker (buzzz), or I guess this is really 2 buzz words with the term, ‘Seeker Sensitive’ (buzzz).
This may be the one that gets me the most riled up of any of them — at least it will feel that way until I begin writing about the next one and the one after that!
But the reason […]
