Champions of the Summer

Summer Highlight

For me, one of the definite Summer highlights had to be the absolute blast our Southbrook kids experienced at VBS’ “The Amazing Planet!” It was truly one of the most amazing (no pun intended) kids adventures I’ve ever seen any church do.

Most amazing (sorry, last time) part?

It was all in house!

Our own Mary Padgett and Marty Montague wrote and produced the entire thing!

I’ve always been so thankful for the Willowcreeks and Saddlebacks out there that, in the early going can offer so much for a church that lacks funds and people and resources, but there’s an exciting line you cross when you begin to see God do those amazing ( I lied, I’m addicted to this word…help me!) things, as I said, ‘in house.’

Check out these highlights and for goodness sake…

I agree 100%! Mary, Marty and all the children’s workers are awesome. VBS was great and I’m also thankful for all they do for our kids week to week. Southbrook is truly blessed with their talent and more importantly their love for God and our children.

Michael says:

Man, I am fat in that picture. Thanks be to God. I have lost 12 pounds since then. Amazing!

I had to get that out of the way!!!

Yes, VBS was really great, and the kids loved it. Mary and Marty were amazing, but knowing a little bit about them, I know that they will try to stay in the shadows and not take credit. But, you are right in championing them. God has blessed them, no doubt.

That’s the point. God. I can hear the two of them now saying it, “God has done this good work, not us.” Southbrook is not about us. It is about God. “Simply Christ.” I love that verse in the Message. I cannot remember where I read it. I know it was in one of Paul’s letters. Reference is not the point. The point is God. He is the real Champion of Champions. No offense to Mary and Marty, but Rob, you know them. They are going to give the mic to Him to say a few words rather than mess up what God is doing.

Phil says:

The first and second years of VBS were great. This year God provided even more!

Kate says:

I heard only wonderful things about VBS this year. And frankly I was not surprised one bit! First, because as Michael said, it was all about God, and all left up to God. Mary and Marty just followed His perfect lead and went for it! and that what they do each week at Southbrook- follow God’s great lead. So thanks for being such good examples of following God’s lead.
