Spontaneous Combustion!

I’ve heard it said that there are actual cases of human beings bursting into flames for no apparent reason. I mean, you can read about it on the internet, so it must be true. Actually, I don’t care if it’s true or not (I might feel differently if I suddenly burst into flames, but I’m gambling that isn’t about to happen). That’s the kind of guy I am—living on the edge!

Guess what? There’sReturnWorshipCover actually another kind of spontaneous combustion that’s good. If you’re a Christ follower you want this type of fire to consume you. I’m talking about the fire of the Holy Spirit as He ignites His people to move out in faith for Jesus Christ! The Bible talks about it here and here and in many other places. The truth is, if you really want to be “on fire” for Jesus than you have to be ignited. Even the greatest raging forest fires begin with a single spark, but without ignition, there’s, well…nothing.

Again, why not let it all begin this weekend as we worship together as one with the release of Southbrook’s first praise and worship CD, “Return?”

Then, plan on attending the following four weeks as our new series, IGNITE begins. We’re believing God for ginormous things! Will you join us in this?

And you can help us by voting in the first poll for the ignite series here. And then in the second poll here…

Okay, I must honestly say that I can’t just pick one of these because so many of them fit. I use to be in a small group but no longer am since my surgery and not finding one that really fits me that is closer to my home. I often feel VERY lonely. I do have a few close friends and we do push one another to go deeper with Jesus but I have found that when things get really hectic in people’s lives that we don’t talk as much and we don’t seem to find out as much what goes on with one another. Most of my really really close friends are married and I am single so it makes things harder. I do not have a mentor. I am in one or more painful and destructive relationships. I honestly feel that in few of my relationships I am helping others grow closer to Christ, but sometimes I don’t know if this is just because I don’t see the results of His work right now. I definitely fear intimacy and no I don’t have an accountability partner.

Amy,

Keep on trying! And I would urge you to get in a small group ASAP. It’s easy to get out of the habit, but the long term affects almost always lead to distance from God and others.

Brother,
I had been praying for vision for our small group (don’t know the exact day) around the time when I see that you had posted this…The first time that I have seen it was today (Oct.5)…anyways, when I was praying I felt God say ’spontaneous combustion’….I actually started a blogspot under that name a few days ago! I find it interesting that He was sharing the same type of thing (which is not a common theme in Christian circles) with you during the same time. God bless you and His ministry through you…

Just moved to this area and we miss our old church and friends so much it hurts! Southbrook is very different, but we are hoping to find the same type of friendships.
