Now that’s a cool ’staff fun day!’

CIMG2474

Our staff meetings are Tuesdays at Southbrook. But every 5th Tuesday we make a staff fun day. This one was really fun and had a great cause as well. I hope a lot of you will be inspired by it and join Southbrook Church in their efforts to partner with people and non-profits in Monroe in order to make a difference for the Kingdom.

Southbrook Church has been partnering with Habitat for Humanity for a while now and this year we have our very own home we are working on. Well, I mean, it’s not for us, it’s for a wonderful family but we get to help build it! It was hilarious to see who had “skills” (as Napoleon Dynamite would say) and who, well, had a great big heart. Both are needed!

Anyway, we had an awesome time, and even managed to make some pretty significant strides on the house as well. I’m including some pictures (and one video) for your enjoyment at the end of this post so don’t forget to take a peek.

Anyway, this whole thing gave me an idea. Most of you know that Southbrook is involved in a whole lot of missions work—quite honestly, more than I’ve ever seen for a church our size. And God has always blessed us with an abundance of resources to help people both domestically and internationally and even more importantly, to use those resources to ultimately share the love of Christ. So I am going to blog about a different mission that we support each week beginning with this one. After a while, if you want to know about several of them, you will be able to check in the “categories” folders for the “Southbrook Outreach” folder to find them all. But wait until there are at least 2 posts in there .

P.S. Don’t forget to share your most bone-headed financial decision (story) with me. Just leave it in the comments section after yesterday’s post. You can access it here. By Friday I will pick the winner (or loser, depending upon how you view it :) ). Thanks everyone for the stories so far. They’re great!

P.P.S. Don’t forget to check out some new blogs connected to Southbrook ministries and people;

1. www.michellesingleton.com (my personal favorite! Read this one to get the straight scoop after you’ve read mine!)

2. www.plantingbythebrook.com (a take off on ‘by the book’ type approaches obviously but the difference here is that we share what we’ve learned learned in every possible way—the good, the bad and the ugly!)

3. www.southbrookrevealed.com (a ‘weekend update’ sharing what went down each weekend for those who could not make it or just like having a little synopsis)

4. http://southbrookchurch.blogspot.com/ (This one has been going for a while all though there was a period of time where it wasn’t updated much. That’s changed now with Southbrook/Monroe going full steam ahead. Check back here periodically for news on how Southbrook Church plans to expand and reach out way beyond our four walls)

I have to say that working on the Habitat house was one of the coolest days I’ve had so far as a fairly new staff member. I even got to use a power tool which never happens in my house!! I did get the Skilsaw thingy taken away from me, but I got to put in a bathtub!!! LOL I heard and participated in lots of laughter and my hat is off to the Habitat staffers who were amazingly patient with those of us a little less experienced in building houses. Spending time with this staff is fun regardless of what we’re doing and I’m truly thankful and blessed to be part of this team!

Now, I think while Kelley is at work…I’m going to try that nail gun thingy and build me a bookshelf!!

GOOD WORK SOUTHBROOK!
Pastor Rob….what did you do with all your favorite links in the right hand column? I’m alittle lost without them. Guess I should have put them in favorites. Thanks for being “you” for night of Worship last night….wonderful how GOD’s love works.

Rob says:

Hi Key!

The favorite links deal was getting too long. Never fear, they won’t be gone for long. My webb guy is working on a second page for them as well as a scrolling blogroll. Should be up in the next week or so.

Meanwhile I decided to limit the front page to Southbrook related links — even that is getting long!

Thanks so much for a GREAT service last night. I was in tears by the middle of the first song. I loved the intentional work put into the service, I loved that the staff and their spouses were together to pray with people, and I loved the cards that we have to pass out for the upcoming series. It’s awesome to have a tool to hand out about the church!!

Speaking of the “Friends with Benefits” series, is it compatible/appropriate for 6 to 9 year olds being in the worship service?
