No Strings Attached
Well, week one of Friends with Benefits is over.
Did you survive?
Sure you did. It wasn’t so bad afterall, was it? Well, now that we know the flow, what say we have a little fun with this series?
I want to hear YOUR stories throughout this series. Each week I’m going to giveaway a gift to the best one. At the end of the entire 4 week series we’ll be giving away a really cool gift for the best overall story shared the entire series.
So, let’s get this party started. For the first one I want all of you who have a “nightmare dating story” to share your awkward moment with the blogging world. It just needs to be something funny, embarrassing, humiliating—you know, all that fun stuff. But please, nothing inappropriate or I’ll just exercise my right to hit delete. So don’t even think about it. Keep it clean people.
Now, since most of these will be relationship deals of a ‘dating’ nature, let’s get more specific. For week number one I want to hear the most embarrassing “first date” or “blind date” story out there–from a guy’s or a gal’s perspective. And then, just as we did with the ‘embarrassing finance story” last week, we’ll pick a winner and give away a prize.
What is it?
You people are tough. Ok, ok, the first prize is a $10 gift card to Starbucks (so you can try another afternoon or morning date attempt), a $5 itunes gift card so you can get in that romantic mood by downloading a few Looooove songs, and finally a little help in the romance department with, Making Love Last Forever by Gary Smalley
The weekly prizes will be a bit smaller then the ‘big one’ at the end of the series, but still well worth a short post. Here are the rules for each contest…
1. You must have a blog.
2. Write a post on your blog that tells others about the “embarrassing date” — give us all the juicy details, please!
3. Include a link to today’s post. In other words, include the following link in the post you write, http://www.robsingleton.net/2008/02/04/no-strings-attached/
4. Have your post up by noon, Friday, February 8th.
5. Enter to win by linking below. Please be sure to link the specific page that your entry post is on. Our pastoral staff will be reviewing the entries next weekend and I will post the winner on Monday, February 10th, 2008.

In laymen’s terms it is the http://www.xyz-whatever.com or rather it is the actual website address you type in when you go somewhere on “the net”. Oh and you need to have a blog that you make posts to so you can submit the link through the “linky” tool Rob is using. (Right Rob?) Hey I said Rob and tool in the same sentence, how often do you get to do that with your pastor? ; )

Friends with Benefits….NOT!!!
One of my best friends & her boyfriend had a friend coming into town for the weekend. Blind dates were not my thing but as a favor I agreed to go. He was handsome, funny & nice. We ate burgers, played pool & just hung out. Unfortunately, my friends were very much “into each other”, which got my “date” thinking “that would be fun too”. The guys suggested taking a ride, which turned out to be “finding a place to park”. However, God was watching over me & the road they chose to go down was a pool of mud. The car got stuck up to the doors and had to be towed out, after they had to walk to find a phone. My “date lost his shoes in the mud & that romantic feeling as well. Funny, I never heard from him again.

I’ll keep this long story short for everyone’s sake
Back in my college days, I used to walk past this cute girl (yes, she was still a girl then) that had an office down the hall from mine in the student union building. After mustering up the courage to talk with her a few times and noting some mutual interests, I finally asked her out.
Being a college student, free was good. There was this movie called “The Shining” playing at the free movie on campus. I picked her up and asked if the movie would be ok. She said a movie is fine as long as it wasn’t scary. She had never heard of this movie and didn’t know anything about it. I said, “it’s not too scary, just intense.”
Well, we went to the movie. After the movie, she cried the rest of the night. I felt two inches tall – what was I thinking- I wasn’t sure whether I should just leave (with my head down but having learned a valuable lesson) or stay to comfort her! Some how, we made it past that first date and had many more—
