The Spin Cycle (Part Two)

If you’ve been reading this blog for any length of time then you know the drill by now. Whenever I do a series it’s best to go back and read the previous parts in order to avoid thinking I am a schizophrenic (not entirely off base). So, if you haven’t already done so, go here [...]

The Spin Cycle (Part One)

I love reading through the gospels. I think every believer ought to try and read through all four gospels at least two times a year. Why all four? Because each is written to a different audience, and each adds perspective to the others. Did you know that?
It’s true.

Matthew was written to a primarily Jewish audience.
Mark [...]

Eleven Miracles in Monroe

Miss me?
I haven’t blogged for almost a week and I’ve missed you all! But my family and I have had a wonderful week together at the beach. Being with my family is my very favorite thing to do.
I also love being with my Southbrook family and hearing what’s going on at both Southbrook Central and [...]

Round 2, VBS at Southbrook Monroe!

The best VBS ever wrapped up at Southbrook’s central campus last week. Nearly 400 kids participated in it and more importantly, 74 of them asked Jesus into their hearts!
That’s the number that really counts!
Praise Jesus!
And thanks to all the volunteers who gave hours and hours of their time to make the week special for young [...]

The Beat Goes On!

Last night, New Life 91.9 (the premier ‘Christian’ radio station in Charlotte) came to our Vacation Bible School for an Ice Cream extravaganza!
Nevermind the fancy name, all the kids knew was FREE ICE CREAM!!
Thanks New Life!
And VBS continues to grow. Tonight we will wrap up VBS at Southbrook Central. We had almost a third [...]

Why we do what we do!

Tonight at VBS Central we say more than 50 kids give their lives to Christ after a clear presentation of the gospel! Kids are extra special because their young hearts are still tender toward God and their faith is still growing. These kids wrote their names as a sign of their commitment to Jesus.
We’ll never [...]

Feel the Power!

VBS — Greater than ever!
This year’s VBS is by far the best I’ve ever seen at Southbrook Church! After last year I would have thought our volunteers would be hard pressed to do better, but they’ve raised the bar again!
10 notches!
And they say a picture is worth a thousand words so, here are some pictures [...]

Champion of the Week

Last week my son and I wrapped up another great season of soccer with one major difference from the previous 7. This year he played for the Southbrook Legacy Sports league!
At first I was a bit skeptical about putting him in this league. Afterall, he’s played several years of fairly competitive soccer and this was [...]

If a Tree Falls Down in the Middle of a Forest…

…with no one around. Was it ever really there?

This is one of the great time wasters of philosophy 101 class. But today a church planter seemed discouraged enough to ask a question that struck me much the same. And this time I did not see it as a waste of time.
“My church is really doing [...]

One Prayer!

I’m still amazed by the entire concept of this “One Prayer” undertaking.
Stop and think about this for a moment. More than 1500 chruches now (they are still joining this thing) and close to a million people completely unified in their desire to see God do great things for His glory and honor!
Today we continued [...]

Shift

Hey Brookies! It’s time to shift again.
Anyone taken a look at the 10:00 am service lately?—In both the main building and the Video Cafe?
It’s slammed and once again we are hearing frustration from some of our guests about it taking too long to check in kids and or get a parking space. For some people, the [...]

One Prayer Continues

I’m thrilled to be a part of this history making series called, “One Prayer!”
For those of you who haven’t heard anything about it yet, it is a unifying of over 1400 churches and close to a million people in their passion to see God move in mighty ways through local churches around the world!
Wow! Besides [...]

More Thoughts on Church Growth

Ok, I found the analogy and the brain behind it.
Larry Osborne is the author of a book called, “The Unity Factor.” In it he says that, as a church goes along the continuum of size it goes from a decathlete (the lead pastor)—where the pastor does ten events (preaching, teaching, youth, returning emails, cutting the [...]

Thoughts on Growth

Southbrook Church has been on a whirlwind of fast growth.
I don’t say this pridefully at all. If you really knew the inside story you would know beyond a shadow of a doubt that it wasn’t because of me but in spite of me. I’m a firm believer in God being more interested in a [...]

The Letter

One of my closest friends is a pastor in the Georgia area. That’s all I’ll tell you about him because some people just have to play, ‘Inspector Clouseau’ and track’m down. If that’s you, you have WAAAAY too much time on your hands.
Anyway, my friend’s been through a lot lately with some power hungry elders. [...]
