Thank You!
October is pastor’s appreciation month and I wanted to say a great big thanks to all of you who encouraged me with a word or a card or a gift!
Some people have to get up and go to work each day. With me it’s never a “have to.” It’s a “get to.”
I get to pastor [...]

The Treehouse Secret
This is Day three of the tree house saga. We are actually clipping along pretty well. In fact, we are on about day five as of last week, but the blog needs to catch up!
Can I tell you all a secret?
The real reason for the tree house now (of all times) — right [...]

The Tree house…Day 2
I thought I’d sneak this in between posts.
I haven’t forgotten the old tree house dream. In fact, me and my father in law (Bob the Builder), as well as my son, Nathan, have been hard at it!
<— Here is a shot of day 2 progress:
Obviously, we’ve found the perfect tree. And I don’t want no [...]

An Amazing and Historic Day @ Southbrook Church!
Over the last several weeks there have been hundreds of guests pouring into our new worship center. Yesterday there were another 500 or so on top of that! I’ve always believed that God expects us to be extra good stewards of such a tremendous opportunity and blessing as this. And this past weekend—especially—I witnessed our [...]

Grand Opening is Tomorrow! Last chance to invite!!
This is a fairly rare Saturday post to remind you all to get your guests lined up and ready to roll!
Grand Opening is tomorrow! There will be Bar-b-Que, rock climbing walls, bouncy thingys (I’m sure they have a name), booths for every ministry and much more!
The 2 services in the new building will be [...]

The Treehouse — Day One
Admittedly, I’m no expert on tree house building, so I thought I’d start a little closer to home—reading. I love to read, and I figured there must be something on tree houses.
Well, in yesterday’s post I shared the book that inspired the whole tree house idea, this one:
It had a little something in it on [...]

The Tree house — Part 2
Wanna know what stirred all this up recently? Well, originally, I really felt it was God convicting me to model Jesus to my children and make sure that instead of complaining about how I wish things were different when I grew up—to make sure that I changed what I could,
Me.
For all you parents who grumble [...]

The Treehouse
I’ve always wanted to build a treehouse. It’s one of those things that stuck in my brain when I first saw the Disney movie, “Swiss Family Robinson” and it never really left.
I made a few attempts over my childhood years, but there’s not much of consequence a seven year old is going to come up [...]

New Series — Begins THIS Weekend!
In just 6 days, we will begin one of the most important series we’ve ever done as a church—Vintage Jesus.
What does “vintage” mean?
Webster’s offers the following:
(1): a season’s yield of grapes or wine from a vineyard (2): wine ; especially : a usually superior wine all or most of which comes from a single [...]

Prepare for Liftoff!
We’ve been gearing up for this day for years!
Friends, the grand opening of our brand new worship center is this coming weekend—Sunday the 26th, to be exact. To get ready for this day we’ve sent out flyers and had hundreds of you commit to bringing friends and neighbors and loved ones to Southbrook Church [...]

Weed and Feed
I’m a lawn freak. Not only do I like the lawn looking good, but even more important to me is the time outside. You see, because I’m also a sermon junkie (I get the shakes if I go more than a few hours without hearing some of my favorite preacher’s takes on whatever I happen [...]

Cradling Critics
I don’t know everything about everything—honestly, I don’t even want to. That would make me a “know it all.”
Everyone knows how enjoyable those people are to be around.
However, one area I do feel like I’m getting pretty good at is handling critics. Once again, I learned at the school of hard knocks rather than [...]

Oh Snap! Did he really say that?!
A few posts ago a pastor in South Carolina wrote a gutsy post that just melts the veneer right off some plastic people. Perry isn’t known for holding back, and every now and then says something that goes way beyond the 4 walls of Newspring Church. What follows is a commentary that I’ve seen play [...]

The “Other” Building
Even though it was a brand new day for all of us as we worshiped in the ginormous building, it was a first for our children as well. That’s right, the kids took over the former worship building and wasted no time up-fitting it for our brand new, Kid’s Cove! They have been chomping at [...]

The Soft Opening
Terms like this amuse me. What is the difference between an opening day, soft opening and grand opening?
Apparently, Opening day is old school.
A soft opening is basically a time to work the bugs out before you shoot the wad and invite the entire known world to your event.
That would be the Grand Opening.
We’ve never really [...]
